ALCAP Association Libanaise pour la Conservation de L'Archeologie et du Patrimoine

The Association Libanaise pour la Conservation de l'Archéologie et du Patrimoine (ALCAP) is a Lebanese non-governmental organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of Lebanon's archaeological sites and cultural heritage. Founded in 2010 ALCAP works towards safeguarding Lebanon's rich historical and archaeological heritage, which includes both ancient monuments and cultural artifacts.
The association is involved in various projects aimed at promoting awareness of Lebanon's heritage, conducting research, and advocating for the protection of historical sites. ALCAP collaborates with international organizations, local communities, and government institutions to restore and preserve important cultural landmarks. Its initiatives also include organizing events, educational programs, and campaigns to raise public awareness about the importance of cultural heritage conservation.
The organization's mission is crucial given Lebanon's diverse and ancient cultural history, which includes Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences, and the need for efforts to protect these sites from the threats of urbanization, neglect, and natural disasters.

Workshop

The ALCAP Association organized on October 18,2018 a symposium in Jbeil under the title: "TheNational Cultural Heritage and How to Preserve It"that was given by the head of the International Anti-Theft Office in the General Directorate of theInternal Security Forces, Colonel Nicolas Saad, andthe archaeologist Hind Younes of the GeneralDirectorate of Antiquities.

Workshop

  • On the first day, Drs. Nada Kallas and Zina Haddad from the LebaneseUniversity, Judge Nadine Rizk, Colonel Youssef Haidar Commander ofthe Independent Works Regiment in the Lebanese Army, Mrs. JoanneFarshakh Director of the Beladi Association, Engineer Osama Al-Kalabfrom the General Directorate of Antiquities, and Dr. Khola Al-KhouryPresident of ALCAP, lectured in the building of the College of Arts andHuman Sciences, Branch Two - Al-Fanar.

Workshop

  • The second day was practical, as everyone toured the Hanoush farm in Hamat, during whichthey were introduced to some of the antiquities in the area, followed by a thank you visit to thecommander of the Special Forces in Hamat. In the end, certificates of participation andappreciation were distributed to the participating officers, and the workshop concluded with alunch in one of the Batroun restaurants. The Lebanese Society for the Protection of Antiquitiesand Heritage also submitted its recommendations and thanks to the army leadership, hopingfor permanent cooperation in order to protect the national heritage.

Full Moon Hiking

  • Bird River Valley (Nahr El Asfour Valley)
  • It is the valley separating the valley ofQadisha and the valley of Al-Joz river, combining the districts of Koura, Batroun and Bcharre. It is characterized by its richness in natural remainsand historical sites. It contains many cavities and caves, which are an attraction for amateursof discovering and studying caves. The valley also includes many hermitages and smallchurches, in addition to many mills scattered along the river. The location is great for visitingand walking, but it is necessary to coordinate with the people of the area because of theremaining presence of mines in some spots.

Visiting archeological sites

  • On 20 July 2022, a request was submitted to the Ministry of Culture and the Presidency of theCouncil of Ministers; it urges the activation of the decision issued on March 18, 2022 by theMinistry of Culture that includes the grain silos of the Beirut port to be enlisted on the generalinventory list of historical buildings. Hence, they are to be protected from demolition andsecured the necessary support that turns them into heritage / engineering monuments of highsymbolism and a memorial for the city of Beirut and the victims of the ominous explosion of the4 August 2020.

Abdel Wahab Island in Tripoli

  • Abdel Wahab Island is 200 meters from the beach, which facilitated the construction of a smallpedestrian bridge to reach it in 1997, and it was turned into a public park and a resort for citizens anda habitat for birds and many types of fish and marine animals.The island is small, with an area of approximately 500 square meters, and from it we see the rest ofthe islands of Tripoli, including the island of "Al-Ballan", which is less than a kilometer from the shore,devoid of trees, and covered with natural plants, especially "Al-Ballan" from which it got its name.The islands follow, Rumaila, Al Wusta, and small islands named by local inhabitants by numbers, whichcan be reached by small boats, creating a beautiful tourism spread on the coast of Tripoli, thus weinvite everyone to visit these islands.
