Mission

Heritage is not decoration. It is evidence.

Lebanon's traditional architecture carries constructional, religious, social, and civic history within its walls. ALCAP exists to defend that record before neglect, demolition, conflict, or speculation erase it.

Our Work

Protection begins with knowing what must be saved.

01

Documentation

Surveying historic houses, facades, arches, balconies, masonry, woodwork, tiles, and inscriptions before loss occurs.

02

Advocacy

Calling attention to endangered buildings and supporting protection under Lebanese and international heritage principles.

03

Research

Publishing expert analysis on Lebanese architecture, Ottoman and Mandate influences, and the cultural value of historic districts.

04

Education

Helping communities recognize the features, stories, and responsibilities attached to Lebanon's built heritage.

Heritage Houses

Beirut's old houses tell a layered story.

The Lebanese house often joins local craft with Gothic, Renaissance, Islamic, Neo-Ottoman, Art Deco, and Mandate-era influences. Its triple arches, central liwan, balconies, stonework, iron details, marble, and wood ceilings are cultural records, not replaceable ornaments.

  • Central halls and triple-arched facades
  • Load-bearing walls, carved stone, corbels, and balconies
  • Urban memory shaped by families, streets, and neighborhoods

Priorities

A practical agenda for cultural protection.

01

Emergency heritage mapping after damage or demolition threats

02

Expert files for buildings and archaeological environments

03

Public campaigns that make heritage visible and valued

04

Partnerships with residents, researchers, and institutions
